Many clients visit my clinic complaining of fatigue and not feeling themselves. Yet, they often state that they have had blood tests that show nothing abnormal!
John came into my clinic for a free pulse diagnosis check. His liver pulse was elevated, and I asked -did he feel tired and irritable? Yes, he did, he confirmed. His medical blood tests were negative, and he wanted an opinion. He confided that he was taking an adrenal tonic, purchased at a Health Food store, to address the fatigue, but it was not helping.
It was not evident to John that remedies suitable for adrenal exhaustion may not be ideal for treating an irritated liver. Where the liver is irritated, some inflammation and inflammatory compounds cause fatigue. Inflammation in the body reduces the function of our Mitochondria ( see below ) within our cells. It is these mitochondria that produce energy. He needed a Herbal anti-inflammatory to regulate the liver to help the mitochondria.
John changed his diet, stopped taking the adrenal tonics and took a liver regulating Herbal formula. The formula was matched to the pulse pattern. Two weeks later, he felt much better! This is the value of pulse assessment.
TERMINOLOGY;
- Pathology is the study of disease and injury that has progressed to dysfunction and requires medical intervention by Drugs or Surgery. Medical blood tests are a good quick way of assessing if there is a possible pathology in the body and progressing to a disease state.
- Functionality is the study of anything that impairs your ability to function normally. Functional medicine looks closely at the contributing factors that may lead to poor function, loss of part or rate of function.
- Oriental diagnosis studies the body’s signs and symptoms, describing a pattern of disharmony and functionality exhibited or experienced by the body. Oriental pertained to East Asian Medicine and was first developed 2000 years ago and refined in modern times.
- Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell’s biochemical reactions. The function of the mitochondria is reduced mitochondrial function toxins and adrenal stress.
What Is Oriental Diagnosis? Oriental diagnosis may be described as the art of assessing the body’s health patterns of imbalance by reading the signs and symptoms exhibited by the body. Certain body parts such as the Eye, Ears, and tongue reflect the internal body’s workings. They are communicated in a holographic way to the external where the trained viewer can assess them. The Practitioner will often take photographs of these body parts to determine better what is being communicated by the body. Pulse diagnosis is a tactile or palpation skill of assessment where sine waves, created by the Heart, are evaluated at the wrist for depth, rate, quality, and speed. The information is interpreted to determine where there is an imbalance.
What is the value of this to you?
Blood tests and X-rays MRI give good information on pathology or disease but not necessarily function or subclinical conditions.
An example of explaining the differences between pathology and function is a person who presents with fatigue, weight gain, some hair loss, and sleep issues. These are all signs of low thyroid function. However, if the blood test is negative or within,n normal limits, then no medical treatment can be given.
A functional practitioner, however, will assess the signs and symptoms and treat the subclinical condition before the condition progresses to dysfunction or pathology.
The Practitioner thus tests for functionality and prescribes supplements to strengthen the poor function or imbalance. They can also treat for disease or dysfunction, depending on the condition. This is rehabilitation.
Medical tests, if showing pathology, will usually use drugs, which rehabilitates the disease but not the imbalance that caused the disease.
Oriental diagnosis assesses what is happening now. At this stage, the body can repair itself with Nutrients or corrective therapies before reaching a stage of pathology or disease.
>ADVANTAGES:
- Oriental diagnosis is matched to signs and symptoms that you can relate to, thus giving you feedback on possible disharmony patterns and loss of function.
- Ideal for preventative medicine where pro-active measures can be prescribed or for treating subclinical conditions that have not developed into pathologies.
- No invasive therapies. Does not use radiation or blood draws to determine imbalances
- It is ideal for those taking supplements and wishing to match the correct natural therapy for their constitution or imbalance.
DISADVANTAGES :
- NONE, but may be limited in assessing pathology or disease of a severe nature or where a definitive medical diagnosis is required.
